Water level in the sump looks a little high for the skimmer but if its working then its ok. Most leave the water level under the gate valve to eliminate any back pressure.
Water level in the sump looks a little high period. I hope you have some good check valves. I would be concerned about the amount of water that will drain in a power outage. It may be just fine but I am one to error on the safe side.
Yes the water level is 9" above the eggcrate and max for SRO is 8.5. I plan on lifting it another 1/2 to 1" (or more). I have done shut downs and sump handled all backflow but installing a siphon break on the inlets. Branching off 1 1/4 return with a 1/2 Tee then a murlock 1/2 to 1/4 tube adapter that will feed in behind the o' flow box to act as siphon break.
