So I bit the bullet and bought another tank, I sold all of mine some time ago when my daughter was born and now back to the addiction. I got a 220 gal with 3 MH and 4 VHO for lighting, 55 gal sump, nice skimmer, and about 280 #'s of LR and 180-200 #'s of live sand.... One prob now... Cant decide on what to stock it with, going to do a reef setup might as well since I have all the rock to! SO looking for some help here on what to stock it with! At the moment I am looking at tangs, butterfly's,and angles along with others. What do you think?

tangs are great , some pygmy angels are ok ....as you start to get more into the larger angels and most butterflys you run the risk of them picking at certain polyps and clams if you go that way...unfortunately most angels and butterfly sp. are specialized feeders and can specialize in eating ie sponges, polyps, polychate worms..Just do your homework on here, or look into scott michaels books ...I like to roll with tangs and rabbitfish they usually are safe..

I did read that about the angels and butterfly's so I did know about that issue just asking what everyone else thought. Most of the fish I am thinking of getting were tangs and rabbit fish. Now I noticed that it is said tangs are aggressive to one another any I should avoid together?

this is part science and luck..you want to put tangs together that do not resemble each other so they dont compete for resources. disimiliar size, shape and color are best..Of cours some species are more territorial like: sohal, clowns, powder blue, powder brn/white face,achilles..there are more..you naso sp. and hippo(blue) are usually pretty passive..If you have a wish list it is best to put the least territorial/agg. first then work your way up..this way the passive fish has already established itself..it is never a perfect game but I have had success in the past..

Tangs and angels are good if you can get the tangs to eat and the angels to not eat your corals. in a big tank like that I would go with different anthias, these fish have so much color and can be kept in numbers. A lot of the show tanks out here in LA and orange county stock nothing but anthias and they look great. Gobies or jawfish are good as well as blennies for keeping the sand clean and algae under control.
