New tank set up

Hello All!

My name is Pedro, I live in White Lake, Michigan and work as a Supply-Chain Manager.

Several years ago I was in this hobby with a freshwater filled with discus. Kept that set up successfully for 6+ years and only "gave it to my friend" because I was moving from my home country (Brazil) to the US for a new project at work.

After 7 years, I am finally getting ready for another tank and this time I will set up a reef tank with soft corals. My tank is 125 g and my initial struggle is that the support of the tank Is only 23" high and it seems not enough for a protein skimmer. So I am trying to a find a skimmer that would be effective for my set up but with no more than 20" high so that I can another 3"or so for clearance (removing the collecting cup). Do you have any idea? I cannot have the HOB skimmer either, since there isn't much clearance there too.

I can't wait to start this journey!

Thanks a lot & kind regards,
Pedro

You are prob going to a external skimmer to sit in that small of a space and pull the whole thing out to remove the cup... Or A hang on back. either or i do not like to use unless its in a place where water is not rally a issue because all skimmers will over flow sometimes...

Thank you for your feedback ericarenee! So instead of having inside the sump it would be better to have just a regular free standing skimmer and pull it out to remove the cup as often as needed. That might work too! Thanks for the input, really appreciate it!
