Lol i forgot about the velvet hammer i had to stop and think what we named that. Its dong well you can actually see it in the left side of the sunset pic.

Thanks Steve, looks like you have a tank to be quite proud of as well, next time I come up there dont be suprised when you see me knocking on your door :D. I just use super glue gel to attach everything if it is something that I just cant get to stick I may break out the putty stuff but usually just super glue.

Thanks Weber, I am liking the XM 10s seemed to have gotten a growth spurt since putting them on that could have been to the kalk reactor though as well. Tank seems a lot brighter and has that crisp white look to it which I usually strive for...I wont lie I miss the hint of blue the reefluxs provided though.

Hey does the gel work in water or is it best out of water, Just a curious question before the trial. Stop by anytime you like as a matter of fact ill be in Charlotte for the All-Star Challenge at Lowes Motor Speedway and the following week for the Coca-Cola 600 (May19th and May 27th)

Let me know if you have time to stop by I would love for you to and we can have a beer or two and catch up, I am only about 5-10 miles from the race track.

Well I had a Bort and Matt come down for the day and as we are checking out the tank at night we see a strange creature lurking in our presence:

Worm%20in%20Rock.jpg

As we watch it, it seems like it keeps going, and going, and going...like it just wont stop. Then we see the face of this monster which will provide me nightmares for many nights to come.

After researching a little we come to the conclusion that we feel it is a Eunicid worm, much like what Steve Weast experienced. After reading up a little bit it was noted that they, at least in Steve's experience, witnessed it chowing down on ricordia, xenia, and other soft corals (funny how we found him right by my ricordia). It was also noted that some species would attach clams...of which I had two clams mysteriously die on me within the past month after showing no signs of being ill. Although I cannot obviously pinpoint this worm to doing any real damage that I saw I figured it would be better to take him out then let him roam free.

Of course this guy wasnt in the easy rock he had to be on the very base rock of the whole left side of my structure...which means tomorrow I will spend my day re-aquascaping my whole tank because I cannot get the rocks back together now. After finally getting the rock out we did a fresh water dip which caused him to come plummeting out of the rock...this is what we found! Although not nearly as big as many still enough to put a little scare in me.

The Guilty party (at my apartment it goes guilty until proven innocent but we didnt allow him to even try to prove his case):

Roughly a half inch thick:

And roughly 4 Jimmy Deans Sausages or 15 inches which ever unit of measure you are more comfortable with:

None the less the last few hours of my night have included fishing this guy out of my tank. Now of course because I was to scared to let him continue in my tank I now have to reaquascape everything tomorrow...of course it comes after me finally being content with how everything was growing in on my tank.

YIKES!!!!

do you have any idea how it got in there? how long its been in there? thats just freakin nuts!

what made you guys want to stay up at night to look into the tank? (i.e. what tipped you off that something like this might be in there?)

did you use any special means in seeing it? dark room? lights out? using one of those red flashlights?

Well I actually noticed it the night before and informed Matt. We ended up staking it out last night turned off all the lights and just kept doing sneak attacks on the rock he was in so we could try to guage how big he was to see if it would be a problem with the flashlight. No clue how he got in there or how long as I really havent gotten any new rock (of substantial size which I think he would be in) in like a year so my guess is at the minimum a year.

That looks like a much, much larger version of the critters I saw crawling out of my dead clams. Makes me feel a bit better that it may not have been all my fault they died.

You going to preserve it in fomaldehyde or something

Yeah there is a guy in the club down here who is going to store it in fomaldehyde right now he is in the freezer. Also since I had to tear down the left side of my tank after Matt and I tried for about an hour last night to get everything back in place...and failed miserably, I have just taken all of the corals out of my tank and I am forced to restack all of my rock. Not to happy right now but it had to be done.

Jon that thing is sick. I lost an old clam the other day for no reason, you have made think that is the problem. I don't think that I will be eating sausage links for quite some time.

Havent updated in awhile (since the worm incident) no big changes really. I have been fairly happy with things in my display but pretty dissapointed with things in my frag tank (specifically color). As I am sure many of you are as well I am basically out of space in my display so I had to get creative. I really didnt want to put a frag rack into my display tank but I saw Matts frag rack and cracked, and now I am happy I did as it allowed me to fit 14 more frags into the display! None the less on to some pictures, not the best but you'll get the idea.
