New tank suggestions

To all and sundry;
I am new to this caper and would love to hear all your thoughts on the best place to start out.
My end game is to have a tank to make most of you go weak at the knees. As I don't actually own a tank at the moment should I;

a/ start small and upgrade when I'm more confident and knowledgeable.
b/ start large but with hardy fish so I don't kill them in the first week from being a newby retard.

I'm starting with a 110 gallon. I had freshwater years ago and now want to do a mixed reef tank. From my research a larger tank will help you control your water quality a little easier. What is small and what is big for you in tank size.

You're going to have to answer that question yourself depending on your budget, large tanks are expensive to set up. Small tanks say 40 gallons and under are difficult for beginners. Good size tank to get your feet wet would be something around the 90 gallon mark.
