So I am finally getting ready to bring my 120 on line. It will tied into a 40b sump and a 40b frag tank. They have been up for 18 months. I am going to use new dry rock in the 120. Is it likely a cycle will start?
Doubtful assuming the dry rock has little to no "dead" material on it.. It shouldn't..
There should be more than enough beneficial life in the other 2 tanks to account for any ammonia that does come from the dry rock..

+1. You could also get a small piece of live rock from a trustworthy tank. I had 235 pounds of dry rock then got five pounds of live, year later you should see my tank, red and purple coraline galore, hard tube worms, pods like crazy..
