New Tank.

I hope so. It has been a little frustrating.

Nothing good comes easy.

I've heard that the gyres should be cleaned monthly to maintain optimal flow.
What do you think of the Reef Octo powerheads?

I have not ran them long. There is no load in my tank as of yet so we will see. Having them all running in sync with the Wave Engine is pretty cool.

thats what i heard too. I still have to figure out flow in my 7 foot tank. Mp60s are just so expensive. Iv heard nothing but maintenance issues with Gyres. The pricing is soo tempting.

I've had an icecap 3k gyre running in my frag tank for about a year now and haven't pulled it out for an official cleaning yet. I'v scraped some bubble algae off of it, and taken a toothbrush to the impellers while running a couple of times, but that's it. I do notice a significant improvement each time I've taken the toothbrush to it, but it's not like I have to keep it spotless to make it run well.

id love one with a controller too. But im reading reviews how terrible the controllers are too. Some one change my mind so i save like 700$ :)

From what I understand, the coral vue gyres have more feature rich controllers. The icecap ones have a decent variety, but not much in the way of fine tuning.. If you come to the pizza night Thursday, I've got the current and previous gen ice cap controllers if you want to see them.

I have the Hydros Wave Engine. That thing is amazing.

Yeah you might have convinced me. That looks very powerful. looks like it supports all high end powerheads/gyres/pumps. 350$ is rough but also i dont have an Apex so i can justify that price.

Yes it works great. They are coming out with a controller this spring to. There is a YouTube video on it. I can find the link if you want.

Having bad luck with new finnex heaters. They want me to box them up and ship these back to them at my own cost to see if they qualify for repair or replacement

Any other brands worth trying?

One of them the digital reader is 8 degrees off.

The other one has condensation behind the digital display glass. The buttons no longer work.

So I always get the plug-in controller and then get their non-controlled heaters.

Never actually used one because I use a controller, but always heard good things about the JBJ TRUE-TEMP DIGITAL HEATER CONTROLLER. You can buy a bundle with the heater element you want and they sell heater elements separately so if one goes out, you don't have to add the cost of the controller when you replace it. Apparently BRS has their own house brand now that is very similar and has decent reviews.

I use Finnex titanium heaters on Medusa controllers. Had one go out after 10 years and the other four still going strong. I do have 2 Finnex 500 watt heaters with their controller on my 375, but I check the temperature monthly to make sure they're reading correctly.

I have a Finnex Titanium 300W heater that is using an external Finnex controller that has been flawless.

I am wanting for the new Hydros controller to come out and then I will use that.

I purchased a mounting board so I can run all the wires to.
