New Tank

Tanks looking great!! Maybe all the earlier problems don't seem so bad now. Any news on the super skimmer yet?

As far as the problems go, I guess we tend to forget how bad things were at the time although most have subsided.

For the skimmer...I talked to SPAZZ today and he said the pump and parts were all in and he was going to work hard to try and get things done this week. I have my fingers crossed.:)

Great looking tank Tom. I was a big fan of your softie tank...hope this one works out just as well for you. By the way how many power heads are you currently using in the tank? You don't have heating issues?

Thanks. I think the softie tank was somewhat unique for not as many soft tanks out there as either mixed or sps tanks. It was fun for it grew like crazy with all the fish and feedings.

I just recently added another Tunze 6200 PH and will probably add either another 6201 (6201) or a wavebox. I would add another Vortec if they came out with something more tha a 3000gph version. I went with a Tunze simply for I could move more water with that. I still think they are a big eyesore but after seeing this months TOTM here on RC I don't think you can have too much water mov't. Heck Chia is over 100 times per hour for mov't. Sure is hard to argue with his results!!:)

Only issue I've had with heat was when I was running the closed loops with a Dolphin pump. My chiller does occassionally come on but only for a couple hours towards the end of the lighting cycle during certain times of the year. I can live with that. I keep the temp between 78-81 degrees.

I also got word the skimmer is finished and should be shipping soon. I will be sure to post pics as soon as it arrives!!

Sorry I didn't answer this...Currently I have 3 Vortecs, one Tunze 6060, Tunze 6200 and the return from a Gen X pump. Total turnover is approx 16700 gpm or roughly 40 times per hour. Would really like to be over 50 and closer to 75.

THE SKIMMER IS HERE AND IN MY GARAGE!!:D :D

I will post pictures as soon as my wife brings the camera home from a field trip she is on today. To be forewarned it is a monster!!

Here are a few pictures of the skimmer straight out of the crate (which by the way was the size of a small refrigerator). I will post more when I get things set up.

OMG What are you using to power that monster?

Spazz fits the skimmer with a modified Dart.

Funny thing is that it doesn't look as big in the picture as it does in real life!

Does his skimmer use needle wheel on the pump or how is air injected into the water column?

Yes it has a custom needlewheel and the air is pulled through the long upside down U shaped pipe on the front of the skimmer. Here are some more pics.

Here is a full view with the old Deltec running in the background. For those of you who saw the Deltec in Omaha you can get a better understanding just how large the Volcano is!

A shot of the bubble plate, which by the way is removable for cleaning purposes. One huge advantage about these skimmers is that you have the ability to totally pull them apart to clean them.

Another nice feature is the carbon area on the skimmer cup to diffuse the foul odor or ozone if you so choose to run that.
