120 tall, 40g sump home made which i'm having microbubble problems with. any advice welcome, but my real concern right now is this red stringy stuff growing all over the tank???? two 250w mh and 4 t5s' for lighting. my levels are good ph is 8.1 calcium is up amonia 0, nitrite virtualy 0. some of this stuff is 3 or four inches long and it seems the microbubbles are atracted to this stuff looks like little balloons all over the tank.

Reef "cyano" is reddish stringy stuff that coats everything and blows off with current. Sometimes air bubbles get caught it in. Sound close?

It's part of a normal cycle, and while pretty annoying, IME, it will eventually go away on its own. Nutrient export (like pruning caulerpa or xenia) is another way to limit the nutrients it feeds on. There are medicines that will get rid of it, but personally, I avoid all of them in my reef. You'll get varying opinions.

Red Slime remover. Make sure you have alot of water flow in your tank. If you decide to use Red Slime remover turn your protein skimmer off during treatment. Danielle is correct that is part of the cycle and eventually will go away.

How much flow do you have in your tank? That crap will grow like a wild fire if you dont have enough flow. You can siphon it out with water changes. It is part of breaking in a new tank, and it will go away in time. You can siphon it out with water changes.

But I was never patient, and I always used the red slime remover without any problems. :)

my bulbs are brand new maybe a month old and i have two k3s' that cycle in 8 hour shifts and two k4s' that stay on all the time.
