New Tank!

I have kept reefs for a while now, a few different ones in fact. I have come to a point where I need to tear down my 125 reef and go smaller. With this change I will not only be reducing the size of the tank, but will also be keeping a FOWLR. I have a couple questions about this though. Is there any need for lighting in a FOWLR? What kinds? This tank will be a standard 70 gallon.

I am guessing that LR should be about 1.5 lbs or rock per gallon like with reefs. How deep would you suggest the sand be?

What kind of fish would you suggest? As far as I am concerned as long as it will fit in the tank and not sift through the sand I am fine.

Ok...so suggestions?

Substrate only needs to be deep if u keep burrowing wrasses

70 gallon limits you a bit ..restricting you from some of the more popular species.

IMO, if you want a more community (less aggro) tank.. butterflys and foxface are the way to go.

In my previous 75g reef I'd about close to 4" sand and 150lbs of LR. I moved last year and stirring up the sandbed caused the tank to crash and killing 3/4 of the fishes. So after upgrading to the current tank I decided to add just enough sand for look and went FOWLR after getting a pair of semilarvatus butterflies. As for lighting with no corals I went from combo of MH/PC to PC. I'm pretty sure either PC or T5 will do in a FOWLR for you. As for fish list it's really your choice of how much work you want to put into it: frequency of WC, nutrient export (fuge)...etc.

Here's a pic of my prevous 75g
