New Tank

Hey guys, Mike from ZQ here. I have no idea how many of you I know from the store, but I'm guessing not too many since I saw a bunch of fresh faces at the recent meet. I wanted to come mingle and such, but I was on the clock...

Anyway, I've got a new 20 gallon passive/softy tank going on...Just something pretty to look at that's not the zombie box. I've only got a few 'shrooms, couple zoas, and a baby sarcophyton so far. Not to mention the mandarin, firefish, emerald crab, and peppermint shrimp.

If anyone wants to help me stock 'er up I'd be greatly appreciative! :bum:

I have some on my phone...I'll have to see if I can get them onto my laptop and see if they're any good. I'll see if I can dig up my old camera too...

Welcome Aboard!

First observation is that the Mandarin will not survive unless you have the RARE specimen that eats prepared foods. Your 20 gallon tank will not support the growth of pods needed to feed the fish.

Best of luck!

Well I do, in fact, have that rare specimen! I just watched my girl munch on some frozen brine this evening. She's not too keen on Prime Reef though. The mandarin I have, one I sold at the store, and the one that is currently at the store all eat at least live, if not frozen brine.

I'm also fully prepared to cultivate my own 'pods in the event she changes her mind =D

lets see if this works

Welcome!

I too must give some warning on the Mandarin. Mine would eat brine all the time, but wasn't getting enough nutrition and she got very thin. I tried the prawn (sp) eggs and what not to lead to her getting thinner and thinner. I'm actually afraid of them now...I have pods overrunning my tank and still I look at the fish in the pet stores and walk away.

Best of luck!

Welcome to the board. It is funny I say that given I just joined a few weeks ago.

I have been researching food to try to figure out what the best regimen may be for my two new ORA clownfish (a requirement from my son) named Nemo and Nemo (again named by my son). Correct me if I am wrong but I have read that brine shrimp have essentially zero nutritional value and is the equivalent of giving a toddler candy for food only and expecting him o develop nomally. Mysis on the other hand is the reverse.

I guess all depends what type of brine shrimp you are feeding.
Ocean Nutrition HUFA Enriched Super Shrimp Enriched Brine Shrimp with Omega-3 Highly Unsaturated Fatty Acids contains extra vitamins and Amino Acids. Super Shrimp also contain stabilized vitamin C, and are aquaculture tested & proven.
Then you have the Spirulina Brine Shrimp.
These are highly-nutritious brine shrimp because they were fed a bio-enriched diet that included plenty of spirulina.
God I sound like bubba gump.
Thats all I got to say about that..

Welcome
Good to see you on the board instead of just in the store.

Tank looks like its getting goin. the building stage is so hard to wait thru, but its worth it.

Ade you are a wealth of information. I stand corrected. I guess the lesson here is feed enriched brine shrimp to give you a better shot at keeping him alive.

Much appreciated, Ade! I'll have to look into this a little further and see what dietary regime I can actually maintain on a budget....

all my fish etc love the articpods by reefnutrition you guys sell at the store.
i use that a some flake

my mandarin also used to only eat live brine, but she has switched over to the arctic pods after getting hungry and has been hooked, healthy and plump ever since.
