NEW THREAD due to Muppet being kind of a dunce. Sleeping Giant outing **JUNE 1st***

OK, so, let me make the invitation more official. :)

I'm thinking hiking at 7AM at Sleeping Giant on Saturday, June 1st, since the last date I chose was the day of the May meeting (d'oh!!). I figure we'll pack our lunch picnic style and eat it at the top. We'll take the Blue trail up and the Tower trail down.

Can I get a yeah from anybody who is most likely going, by the 18th of May? This way we'll know to wait for you to arrive before we head up.

I'm sure most people know all this already, but a decent checklist for the Blue trail is:

[ ] good shoes with a grip on the sole (no leather or otherwise smooth soles) and good ankle support. Do not wear flip-flops, you will break your leg. :P

[ ] water!!! At LEAST a quart but I usually try to bring half a gallon with me. Camelpacks, canteens, and the like are great for this, but a backpack with some rubbermaid "sport" bottles works too, just make sure the backpack is adjusted properly and fits well or you're gonna be sore at the top. Water, as we all know, is heavy. :D

[ ] some sort of layered outfit that you can shed as we ascend, because you'll be cold at the bottom, hot in the middle, and cold at the top, most likely. A hoodie that you can tie around your waist or stuff in your pack is ideal.

[ ] an insulated lunch bag, and some ice if you've got anything like mayonnaise in there. A brown bag will almost certainly be looking a little worse for the wear at the top of the hill. Even one of those velcro/nylon lunch bags works fine if you don't have anything that'll go sour. :hmm3:

[ ] no booze at Sleeping Giant!!!!! Don't get us all banned from the park, please.

[ ] money for Wentworth's on the way home!! :celeb3:

If anybody else sees an omission in this list feel free to pipe up. Also, if you've got mobility issues, or a young kid or kids who you think would dig the hike but the Blue trail might be too much, also let me know that and maybe we can form two groups and meet at the top.

Any other ideas for improving the outing, pipe up!

icycoral - I'm just mentioning your RSVP here since the other thread was deleted per my request. Don't wanna forget you in a week when it's not fresh in my mind. :)

Just to keep it fresh in your minds, there are now TEN DAYS left to RSVP for the Sleeping Giant outing on June 1st. If we get a large enough head count we might try coordinating what picnic items everyone brings, etc. With a low count, it probably will make more sense to just do bag lunches.

An accurate count will also help determine whether we need multiple hiking groups or to take multiple routes for the sake of difficulty vs ability.
