Hello everyone! Just wanted to introduce myself, and let you guys in on my 18 gallon reef tank build.

Here is the drygood list with reasons why I picked the items.

Tank: ADG Glass Cube 24x12x18 approx 18 gallons
The reason why I chose this tank is because im limited on space, I'm used to small systems (iv had a 3 gallon pico that was suprisingly successful), and iv see Takashi's amazing work with fresh water planted tanks and this is his tank of choice so I figured id try it out with a reef tank. Its sleek rimless desighn also looks dang pretty. Plus I want to help Japan get back up on its feet after the chaos brought forth by the earthquakes and tsunamis.

Flow: Ecotec Vortec MP10 ES
With its ability to create different patterns within the current I'm sure ill be able to please any invertibrates flow requirements, and its feeding mode, nutrient transport mode, and night mode allows me to have plenty of fun experimenting with the optimal patterns. Iv watched some videos on their website of one of their pumps on a 34 gallon solona and I'm absolutly sold on them.

Lighting: Sunlight Supply's 24" Tek Light 4x24 Watt T-5 Fixture
I instantly fell in love with this light after I read that they run off of a WorkHorse ballast. I origionally wanted to run a metal halide but the ammount of heat and a small tank size creates a bad combination with poor results. Here is my bulb configuration thus far. Its somewhat hard to find a decent bulb in a 24" fixture so I'm curious as to what you guys think of it.
1- UV Super Actinic
1- UV 454
1- UV Indigo Sun
1- Coral Life 10,000 K

Ill post the rest of the list when I have more time. Let me know what you guys and gals think. Thanks.

welcome and it looks like your on the right path with that lighting i assume you should have sps without any lighting problems but i could be wrong.

update:
I managed to pick up a 150 watt HQI Outer Orbit pendant light for pretty cheap. I know I said I didn't want to mess with a metal halide, but im a bit worried about the T-5 lights not doing the job supporting SPS corals needs, and I really love the shimmer and color of a 14,000K and 20,000K bulb. the other thing that made me purchase this fixture is it has the ability to raise and lower the entire fixture 24" to 72" becase its mounted to the celing. this will help me maintain temperature inside the aquarium as long as I dont have a glass top. More research and more posts later.

is it only 12 inches deep? if so i think the T5s will be enough but i could be wrong i used 96 watts of T5s on my old 55 and it seemed enough and upgraded to six T5s for my 75 gallon

Welcome. In my opinion t5 should be plenty on that size of a tank. I have a 55 and was getting growth out of vho bulbs. How now upgraded to a 6 bulb t5 and everything is doing wonderful. Lotss of sps, monti s and lps
