New to Anemones

There are way to many choices when it comes to lighting, can i get away with just using two 150w MH and no T5 supplement?

I hate to disagree with the crowd but I kept a BTA under 64w pc successfully for a year. Then I upgraded and kept it under 2x65w pc for another year. The tank was finally lit by halides, but the upgrades were to accomidate other species and not the anemone! I say the anemone would be fine temporarily, if not indefinitely....
If they need more light they will let you know, IMO.....

In terms of a mature tank ... and the so called "6 month" rule, I still haven't figured that one out. What happens at 6 months that is so magical? I think that the a mature reefkeeper is more important than a mature reef....

Would love to see pics of that BTA kept under 64w PC for a year. What size tank?

Probably. Although supplement would be better IMO.

When it was under 64w, it was in a 15h. I probably exaggerated a bit as it was more like 8 months. Grew from 3" to 6" in this timeframe. I have some pictures from when i moved it to the 29g under 130w pc. I will post some pictures when i find them...... What does tank size have to do with it? I always thought distance from bulb was a better indicator?

What experience do you have that shows that 130w is not enough for a BTA?

Anemones get nutrition from food as well as light ...

No, I want to see pics where you kept it under 64 W for a year.

I won't agrue with you. But I will say that there are those of us who kept anemones back in the day before every house had digital cameras and when NO flourescents were the standard.....

You should start a thread asking how many of those with halides find that there BTAs are lower in the tank and even somewhat shaded and how many have kept them successfully under PCs. You might be suprised....

OT, but from your name we may agree on one thing, "MOPAR or no car"....

8 months 64w PC and daily feedings.

Redvipe, have you experienced your BTAs moving towards light from shaded areas? You seem very strongly opinionated in this area and i was wondering if you had some experience that has influenced you .... The fact that there are many variants of BTAs, originating from different areas of the reef leads me to believe that light requirements may be highly variable among the species... i would be very interested in hearing about your experiences...
