New to Breeding with questions

I guess I not new to breeding yet because I haven't even started, I'm just considering it. My ocellaris layed their second clutch of eggs sometime this past week and it has me thinking about breeding. I won't do this uneducated so it will be a while before I decide and/or try it.

My questions is what is a good book to read about breeding? I figgure before I flood this fourms board with questions I'll research first off, then come with the heat.

Lenny, I would get "Clownfishes" by Joyce Wilkenson. It is a definate must have for any clown breeder. Also there is alot of info right here, Just do some reading of past topics, Good luck...Pugi

You may want to try to get them to lay the eggs somewhere else other than the clam. It seems like that could causes some irritation to the clam over time. Maybe put a tile in or a pot or something? Or move them to a separate tank (ideal)

Thanks for the replies, I'll check out that book.

As for the clam, you can see in the pictures that it has retracted its mantel on the side where the eggs are. The clowns are constintaly over there rubbing on it and it is irratating it. That was what made me take a closer look at the clam and eventualy find the eggs. I feel bad taking the clam out an disposing of the eggs but if the eggs, which are not going to survive anyway, are jepardizing the clam I'll have to do it. Any idea how long it will be before they hatch? I would say they are about 5 days old.

Also, would a 12g nano be fine for a mated pair to breed in? I have one all set up in the babies room w/out fish.

I think it's like 6-8 days for hatching depending on temp. If you don't have rotifers set up the larvae don't have much of a chance. Just let them hatch in the tank or scrape them off the clam. A 12 gallon should be good but it may take the pair awhile to start spawning again after the move
