New to corals

I am new to this and I just bought a small piece of acan coral I did research on how to acclimate it an I mostly saw that they let it reach the temp of the tank an then they just drop it it well prior to me doing that I did a 10 gallon water change bc my nitrates were like 40 and then I dropped em right in it was erect at LFS now it just kinda looks like mush is this normal activity for née tank or is it over.... my params are ph 8.0 nitrite and ammonia 0 nitrates are receding please help me an thanks in advance

Help!! Acan coral not looking good

It looks really dark in the picture.

Consistent water is a good thing. What you did there is a risky way to acclimate anything in a saltwater tank.

What type of lights are you using and for how long each day?
 
Acans often need a little time to acclimate.

Getting the lighting right (they bleach easily under too powerful light) and the proper, stable amounts of the Big 3 elements are probably the most critical factors for success.
