hey guys i am relatively new to the group and i have a question for you. I just cleaned out my 29 gallon cichlid setup and want to start another small reef in there. I am not too sure what would the best option for filtration. It's not drilled or anything special so i believe it would need a HOB.

My first saltwater tank was a 29g with a 20 long as a sump/fuge below it. I used a Remora PRO H.O.B. skimmer but had it in the sump and it kept up just fine. I have seen them around lately for sale at about $75-100.

I have a Remora nano skimmer that was on a 34g tank and did just fine. I could sell it for $75 with Maxi-Jet 900 if you wanted it.

Good luck!

I never have been a big fan of h.o.b. filters. Will do in a pinch or just getting started on a budget. Went from h.o.b.'s on my fresh water to canasters. Started out with canisters with salt, now going with refugeium/sump filters. By far the best choice. No water condition problems since. I.E, algea, red slime ect. Plus it helps keeps the nitrates down. Good luck in sorting this out.
