Hello all,
Allow me to introduce myself. I am Bob Borders and I have been involved in the hobby for 2 years.
I am setting up a 225 reef tank. I currently have a 75g and two 30g that I am combining. I have a 90 tank I intend to use as a sump and a 37 gal I will use as a fuge. I have an Aqua-C EV-1000 skimmer. I have 2 external return pumps and an external pump for the skimmer. The tank has a stand than big enough for the sump to fit under but the openings would not allow for anything bigger than a 40B so I decided to have the sump a fuge behind the tank but off to the side and perpendicular to the display. The 90g sump is quite large but I do not need nor want a section for the fuge since I will have one separate.
Now for the questions. How should I segment the sump? I will have two drain lines from the DT coming in separately but next to each other (in case one is some how blocked the other will continue to work). I intend to have the drains go through a micron bag. Do I pump the water for the skimmer from the drain section? Where should the shimmer drain go? As far as the fuge, it will placed above the sump. I intend to have a small pump from the sump supply water into the fuge and a gravity drain bring it back to the sump. The fuge will be higher than the drains from the DT. Should the pump for the sump to the fuge be placed in the same section as the DT drains? Where should the discharge from the fuge go? Lastly I will have an ATO and I assume it will go in the return pump section, is the correct?
I am sorry for the long winded post but I want to get this right.
If anyone a similar set-up I would appreciate it if you could pot some photos.
Thanks in advance,
Bob
