New to leds (Moonlight mode)

My led controller enables a moonlight phase, my strips are reef white and fiji purple lights by tmc. Now for moonlight phase I turn off the reef white and just have the purple lights on at level 3. Have attached pic of the effect. Question, is this purple effect ok or should I reconnect the inbuilt blue leds.

The purples are okay, but it's still recommended to give your tank at least a couple of hours of lights all-off a day.

I would definitely hook up your blue led's ,and I would also turn them off at night .

Are the purple lights not good enough for night viewing? They are on moonlight period. Also like I said all lights are off from 2200.

The violet leds or blue leds are fine for your moonlight time. The difference to the corals and others in the tank is insignificant. However, if you have corals that fluoresce, they look far better under blue than violet (at least in my tank).

Under blue leds I get all kinds of colors to fluoresce. Under just violet leds, all I get is greens to fluoresce. Your results may vary.:beer:

I actually set my lights to go blues only for 45 minutes at night just to admire the "pop" of colors from the corals. It's all about personal preference though. Play with it in different modes and times so that the cool things occur at times while you are able to admire your tank. With all of the work/time we put into this hobby, you deserve a chance to actually enjoy your tank.

Play with it in different modes and times so that the cool things occur at times while you are able to admire your tank. With all of the work/time we put into this hobby, you deserve a chance to actually enjoy your tank.

I specifically look for corals and anemones that fluoresce well under blue leds because I love the look. My sunset mode runs 5 hours and the last 3 are just the blues and violet getting lower and lower. The tank looks like something from Pandora at night!

Cool. I'm only running soft corals, slowly build8ng them. Going to get a small piece every month. Any suggestions for awesome flourescent ones?

Zoas, mushrooms, ricordea, leathers and LPS all have species that fluoresce well. Some zoas are crazy nice fluorescing colors. The thing to do is ask the seller to let you see the coral in all blue light. I buy online from Cultivated Reef and the owner, Holly, will offer her opinion on fluorescence if you ask. BTW, after you order from them once, you'll get a 20% discount coupon good for 60 days with your shipment.

Thanks for your advice. Unfortunately I am in UK so would have to find seller in UK. I use Lfs to be honest and can get small samples for £5. Will go there and see what's hood I think. Ask the guy there to, he knows his stuff and as a bonus had the exact tank I have so he knows the restrictions.

The LFS should be able to show you corals under blue leds or actinic t5 and you'll get to see for yourself. Have fun with it.
