Hi folks,

I have been in the hobby for serveral years now and have a 550 gallon system. Here is the info on my system. The system is based around the main tank that is approx 420 gallons. Tank measurements are 8ft x 3 ft x 27". The tank was custom built by Miracles in Canada. Tank weighs in at 810 lbs empty. There are 5-600 lbs of rock and 250 lbs of sand. The system is plumbed with over 100 ft of various sizes and types of plumbing. This is a mix of rigid and flex PVC.

I believe in the less automation the better philosophy with my system. I have always felt too much automation leads to lazy reef keeping, so my system is not loaded with reactors and such and the only controller on the system is a Reefkeeper Lite that manages the temp and turns on the fans and heaters.

The system is powered by Reeflo Barracuda pump that is rated at 6000 gph. There are several Jebao powerheads on the system that bring total flow to around 18000 gph. Skimming is provided by a Lifereef Skimmer rated at 700 gallons. Skimmer is powered by a mag 18. There is also a 40g refugium that has mostly various types of Xenia in it. This is for Nitrate control. The fuge has a mag 12 pump running it. The entire system feeds to and from a 120 gallon sump. I use a homemade top off system that also serves as my kalk mix container.
Lighting is provided by 3 Radium powered MH fixtures that are supplied power by Galaxy Ballast. Total wattage is 750 W. When the system needs some occasional cooling, this is provided by fans over the top of the sump. Heating is provided by titanium heaters that provide 1500 w of heat to the system.
All additives are dosed manually into the system. These include Bulk Reef Supply Kalk and buffer products and several Kent and Seachem products as well. I also vodka dose to manage nitrates and use SeaKlear to manage Phosphate. I also do systems testing at least every couple of weeks. I keep the Salinity at 1.26, Alk 9-10, Kalk 450, Mag 1400, Phosphate and Nitrate at hear 0.
Livestock includes a dozen different varieties of fish including Tangs, Foxfaces, Anthias, Damsels, Momos and Angels and more. I have 77 different varieties of corals with most being in the SPS family. System has been up and running for about 3.5 years now.
