I'm new to this and will be going to the frag swap with turboex901. What would be some good things to look for at the frag swap for someone just getting into this stuff. Who also does not know alot yet.

dont worry danny, you'll be sittin pretty by the time you leave with the help of all of us. call me if youre still awake. p.s- i pm'ed you back<~~~steve

Welcome to RC!!! Last year was my first frag swap and I can almost guarentee that you'll love it.

If you want specifics on what you should try, you might want to post about your set-up (probably most importantly what lighting you are using). Most leathers and mushrooms make good beginner corals. A lot of people start with xenia and a lot of people recommend green star polyps for newbies. Just be careful on placing either of those because sometimes they can grow so fast that they actually become a menace. I don't know if you have the lighting and the filtration for SPS. If you do, I was a newbie at last years swap (with plenty still to learn now) and have had the best luck with bird's nest (I'll have probably 12-13 frags of this since it has quadrupled in size in the last six months), montipora digitata, and monti "caps."

Last year, the sellers bagged up every frag that I bought. I brought 2 small-ish coolers. Once I filled one of them up, I carried it to the car and got the other cooler so that I wouldn't have to tote 2 of them around.

(I had a 2.5 hour drive home).

I appreciate your idea. You will probably see me walking around with one too. Easy to handle inside and they wont be rolling around Griswald style in the car on the way home.

from last year, everyone had their corals bagged or bagged them 4 you. I brought a cooler and stashed every purchase in there...will do same this year.

It is nothing spectacular 30 gal with hang on filter with built in skimmer, aquatic gardens 600 powerhead, coral life lunar series with 96 watt 10000k bulb and 96 watt actinic bulb with blue led moonglow lights. I think thats it sand substrate and liverock.

With PC's you probably want to avoid any SPS. Even if you can get them to live, they won't keep their color under PC's. You can make a hell of a tank out of softies though. The thing I like about them is the movement a lot of softies have... they aren't just "colorful sticks" as I've heard SPS referred to.

I had great luck with digi under PC's to add the stony look for a reasonable price. I have some in my 5 gallon under those screw in 20 watters and they do fine and grow pretty well. Montiporas will be OK also I would think. Maybe not grow super fast but in a 30 thats a good thing :)
