New to Snorkeling

Hello all,

Just wondering... is snorkeling "free"? ie. Can I go pretty much where I want, or are there areas that are sectioned off for like companies that give tours, etc... I live in So Cal and my friend often goes snorkeling, and I was interested in going to San Diego\La Jolla to try it out some more this weekend... La Jolla cove sounds awseome, but I just want to make sure there aren't like regulations or fee's... and where I could take care of those.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks for any advice...!

Technically nobody can own a body of water unless it is surrounded by their land COMPLETLY, so you should be fine. Just check to make sure that if it is marine park you follow all of the rules and whatnot.

La Jolla cove is a great snorkeling place, but it is a park so you can't harass (touch) marine life inside the park, once you swim out of the cove, touch away LOL! Just kiddiing, but seriously, inside the park you can get a fine just for touching marine life so pay attention to where you are and what you are doing.

As far as other places go, Icy1155 is correct, but you can't just tresspass to get to the ocean either. The law says that private land ends at the high tide mark, so if you are in neighbor hoods, just be polite and use judgment in getting to the ocean.

Ya, snorkeling is free, but sometimes a charter boat can show you the best sights and give you good orientation of the area.
