Hi, I just aquired a Toadstool from my LFS. I got it pretty cheap because the owner thought it wouldn't make it. Anybody know how to revive these beauties? I have placed in about the middle of my tank, with a moderate flow. Yesterday the cap was completely smooth. It now looks like it has "pimples." Normal? Thanks everbody!

ya, thats a good sign, could be the start of its polyps coming out. leave it where you placed it an observe for the next few days. good luck!

Shiny smooth is never a good sign....the more dimples/ripples you see the better. You should see polyps in 1-5 days, but dont ditch it if you dont. They can go 'smooth' for weeks at a time, then emerge just fine.

I had the same problem with mine. I searched everywhere and it said that a few weeks were normal. Pinch it. it should feel like, well.. i guess a cows tongue. it should be rough and muscular (best way i can describe it). I have three, one is doing fantastic and the other two were dormant (three days after i put them in my tank). I let them go the way they were for 2 weeks with no affect. I then started putting them at different points in my tank (180 gallon) up, down, in front of jets, etc.. I finally put both of them directly underneath the area where i dump my food. 2 days later they are now fully out and doing great. they were both "dormant" for just under two months! another tip. I set up my tripod and camera. I took 1 picture every 10 minutes and then scrolled through all of them. I knew it was alive, it was always moving (not just with the current). good luck

Shiny smooth is FINE. It's just going through a molting process, soon you will see it slough off a thin layer of mucous and then return to what you expect from a leather.

They naturally do this in times of stress, it's an adaptation to the sedimentation they can experience in their natural habitats.
