okay i setup my tank and its gone through its cycle...i bought 4 hermit crabs and 1 astrea snail and 2 turbo snails...when i put the turbo snails in though, they quickly digged into the sand and stayed under there...its been 24hrs and they still havent came up...each time i dig them up and put them on the rocks they do the same...the astrea snails and the hermit crabs are doing great though eating forever...is it usual for the snails to do this?

[welcome]

Digging them up is just going to cause stress. They might be nocturnal, as stated, or perhaps not even Turbo.

i know it will cause stress...i only did it once to make sure they didnt die...should i just leave them down there then?...i doubt they came out last nite...well im pretty sure they are turbo because they were listed as turbo, and they move really fast compared to the other snail...they move as fast as the hermit crabs...when they were at the pet store they where moving around doing their job in the tanks at the shop....im not sure what to do...i guess ill just leave them alone down there see what happens...hopefully they dont die

A agree you should let them stay where they want to go, time will tell. I had a wrasse that would dig itself in every night, worried every morning, It all worked out fine... Give it time

I didn't think that turbos dug in the sand. My nassarius dig in the sand and are as fast or faster than my hermits. My turbo stays on the glass and is prettty slow. Are your snails large as a ping pong ball or small like a marble?

inverts are funny things...i bought 3 hermits and have not seen 1 of them until last night...he looked just fine...guess he is shy.

I'd guess they're not turbos, probably nassarius. Do they have a little tube that sticks out of the sand?

Im pretty sure that 'turbo' comes from their shape, i.e. a turban...not their speed. :)

If they are black they are more likely nassarius. Mine are under the sand about 50% of the time, day or night.

My turbos bury themselves all of the time. They will stay there a day or so then go about their business.

Could this be becuase you bought them before your tank had finished cycling? How did you acclimate them to your tank? They could be stressed out because of the ammonia and nitrites in your tank.

yes they do have the little antenna they stick out of the sand..tried looking them up but cant find anything yet...they are white/cream in color...shell is marble size, but body is about one inch when moving...they were listed as turbo snails at petco

i acclimated them for 15 minutes
