i am beginning the process of creating a custom wall unit(entertainment) system which will house a 185 gal custom sized aquarium on each side. it has been 10 years since i have had aquariums. i have been reading a lot to update myself on changes in the hobby i will be posting my progress hoping to get some feed back and avoid pitfalls and mistakes early on . one side will be a reef setup and the other will be a FOWLR setup.

plan to use same setup on both tanks except FOWLR I guess does not need refugium.

need to have tanks made. would like suggestions on custom tank builders??
my only contact so far is concept aquarium international.

was going to have local fish store order custom job from oceanic but in 5 weeks have not been able to get quote. looking at 54 x24 x 33

will post pictures and updates as soon as i get tanks ordered

That sounds like a fun project.

I would use a common setup in the equipment room that has a large sump and huge protein skimmer that serves them both.

When I had my FOWLR, I had it set up as a reef, ie good water movement, live rock, live sand and a good protein skimmer.

Good Luck!

I think i would do as suggested above as well - if anything, IMO, a fowlr might need a bigger fuge. it will serve as a waste processing station and a pod factory for your fish. Don't really see a down side - you may find it to your advantage, however, to plumb them separate - the reef tank will not tolerate the mess that a fowlr may bring to it.
