New used tank question

I just picked up a used cube. The glass is really clean but there is coralline on the over flow. Do I really need to clean this off?

Thanks.

I removed mine by running my tank with a mix of water and vinegar for about a week. It softened all of it to where I was able to just wipe it away. My tank is a 120 gallon, I used 3 of the of the 1.32 gallon (5 liter) bottles and filled the rest with tap water. I set up sump and plumbing and also used this time to test for leaks. After I flushed the entire system with fresh tap water and let completely dry before filling with saltwater. It seems to have worked well for me.

As said above, just use plain old household vinegar to get rid of it. Either run it through the tank like the above poster, or simply ut it on a rag and let it sit for a few minutes, then wipe away.

You don't really have to remove it, if you don't want to. It will eventually end up back on there anyways.

Vinegar should work. Diluted hydrochloric acid at 10 percent would really work fast. It is sold as muriatic acid. Be sure to dilute it by adding it to water and not vice versa. I would also dilute it outside to cut down on fume exposure. But it is for the terminally impatient.

+1 on vinegar. I sprayed straight vinegar on it and let sit for a few hours then sprayed it again and scraped off what I could. Repeated this a couple times and got it all off and looks like new.
