New video from the MP20

I finally got my light hanging over the angled tank, and replaced the bulb. The Rose BTAs look so pretty in the wave mode that I shot a video.

Two versions, the second one is larger and better resoluton:

I have to say I can't believe how cheap it is to run these pumps. .62 per month is just incredible.

Great vid of it functioning on a small tank. Nice production of the video and soundtrack too ;).

I like how the flow is everywhere, but doesn't seem to be overwhelming anything. Out of curiosity, what % power did you have the MP20 set? I think a MP20 would be great for me if I decide to keep my 29G up after the 90G is set up(with 2 MP40Ws of course ;)).

Hmmm. That's a good question. Since the Kill-o-watt measured it at 6 - 8 watts as it cycled (which is why I said 7w), perhaps Tim can chime in on how many more watts are possible to give you a percentage? If we don't get an answer from EcoTech, I'll change the setting and see what the max wattage is.

I tend to turn my pumps down on both tanks because I simply don't see the need for 100% flow. I like my sand staying in one place and corals not being blown away.

Oh, sorry I didn't really mean to be that specific, I was just wondering about where you are on the pump speed dial. ;)

It is hard to tell when in Wave mode because you crank up the flow to what feels right, then press a button and change the same knob to the right pulse rate. Once you hit it, you don't want to touch it.

At least, that's what I do.

melev, from your perspective would you say the mp20 would be able to handle a 40 gallon breeder that is mainly sps dominated? Or should I get the mp40w.

edit:
will an aquarium with a hang on u-tube overflow, still be functional with a vortech in the aqurium? i'm worried that with the uneven surface that the wave creates, there will interference with the overflows functionality. Or am I just worried about nothing?

Since it can move 2000gph at max speed, I think that would be good on a 40g. The mp40w moves 3200gph, but can your corals handle that blast? I have three mp40w's on my 280g reef, but those are only running at two-thirds their top speed.

Something you have to consider is how the rockwork and SPS growth occurs, it will impede the flow of the single pump. In Wave mode, that might not be a big deal. For SPS, I'd probably put it in Reefcrest mode.

The nice thing about the mp20 is that it is fully upgradeable. So you can try it out and if you aren't happy and want the full mp40w experience, you just buy the upgrade kit. The only money 'lost' would be the extra shipping of the upgrade kit.
