new vortech

Just received today and installed it this evening. Boy, this thing is making so much noise. I've carefully adjusted it based on the instructions in the manual to reduced the vibration but the pump is still making a lot of noise which I think comes from the dry side. Is this normal? How long does it usually take to run in before the noise goes to a acceptable level??

It should not be that noisy. You need to make sure both sides are alligned . Turn it off., and first check to make sure you have it set to the proper thickness for your tank. Then replace the wet side and allign it to the outside. This should quiet it down? I have two running and the noise it hardly noticable at all. Hope that helps. One other thing, they are noisy if you are running it at full speed (green mode) After about 4 days mine got even quieter.

My tank glass is about 3/4", so I did not put the spacer in between. I'm only running it at about middle or less at the dial under green mode. I'm pretty sure the noise comes from the dry side of the pump, and it is more noisier at the outside as compare to the wet side.

Hello Wongkwp,

What type of noise are you describing? Being that the motor is on the outside of the tank with no water to dampen any vibration, it will not be dead silent. It shouldn't be much different than any external pump such as a Dart, perhaps a bit quieter.

I think it is the sound of the motor spinning. I can hear it even from 10 to 15 feet away. I can't even increase the dial to a higher speed as this will further increase the noise lounder. How long does it take to break in and will the noise decrease after that?

I don't have a decibel meter. Here's a video I took and uploaded to youtube. It is this buzzing sound that is coming out from the motor on the dry side and as I distance myself away from the tank, the buzzing sound can still be heard. This is a new vortech I received from marinedepot yesterday.
