New water; green water

Filled my new tank with sand, then water, and then the rock. Well, the tank started looking green after a while. The water might have been in there for a few weeks already, but it has a heater and powerhead in it. So now I wanted to transfer the tanks today but the water is green. I put 3 bags of carbon in it, 3 foam filters made for the overflows, and a coralife super skimmer 65 from the old tank, the skimmer picked out a lot in the first 2 cups, now it's working on the third cup and not pulling as fast as it was. The water from the front of the tank looks not as green as it did earlier, but looking down from the end looking through 6 feet of it, it looks real green yet. Just keep skimming and leave the other media in there? Is this water even good to use anymore or am I going to have to make 100 more gallons and restart?

The water should still be fine to use. It sounds like you had some sort of algae bloom. Just keep skimming and make sure your pH, Alkalinity, Salinity, and other parameters are in check.

It isn't live rock, it was base rock. I think it got really bad after the rocks were put in and moved around. After they were being moved around it looked like mud, settled then more green.

K, I will use the water, thanks! :D

How long do you think that should take to clear with the above filtration running through it? It's a lot of stuff to filter it lol. I just wanted to get it transfered quick so I don't have to run 5 gallons and mix salt for a water change on the other tank. The RO/DI filters probably aren't that good anymore after filling the new tank and its 40 gallon sump.
