New "way" upstate club

Hey guys,
With Gary and I living way out in God's country, I decided to put up a few Flyers at our LFS's and try to start a club based in Plattsburgh. 8-10 people have expressed interest so far but so far only about 5 are actively posting on the forum I created on RC. I invite all of you to check it out and post freely.

Norther New York Reef Society (NNYRS)

NNYRS Forum:
NNYRS

I created a website as well, it's lacking in content right now and most of the pages simply link to an "under Construction" page, but it's a start. I welcome suggestions of any type. Consider it a work in progress.

NNYRS Website

Let me know what you think, I consider myself only an adequate web developer, so there is a lot of room for improvement.

Congrats and good luck! Just make sure you still poke your head around here every once in a while. It's good to check into the mother ship :)

Oh don't worry, I'm not going anywhere. In fact I posted a thread in the new forum informing new members of the other area clubs / forums, so hopefully the following of each group would grow. My main reason for starting the club up here (along with furthering knowledge,....) was to hopefully get enough of a following to have similar frag swaps to the ones I have seen in the Rochester / Syracuse area. Maybe at some point, find a central meeting point and have a big inter-club swap. Get the Burlington VT, Albany NY, new Norther New York club, together with URS and have a huge swap. But that, if it can be done, would be well down the road

Also, i'm not sure what, if any, club discount we get as URS members, but I intend to call around to some of the more popular online vendors to inquire about club discounts. I would then inturn post a link / banner to their site on the NNYRS website (sponsors page). If we (URS) get anything like that, whomever set it up, please PM me and let me know who I need to contact within their organizations. Otherwise, I'll just go from site to site going email crazy!!!

If and when I am able to get anyone to agree to it, I'll be sure to share the info here, and you are all welcome to add you name to any lists that may be created.

Thanks,
Ben

WOW!!! I have had a great response from several of our online vendors, offering discounts and items for raffle at meetings. I'll be updating the website tonight with a list of sponsors and their discounts.

I sent out about 20 or so emails and have had about 10 responses, 8 of which positive. The other two simply asked that I write back in a few months as they have exhausted their sponsorship budgets. All this since last night.

Great to hear that NY, I may even be visiting your area soon, well next month. The misses travels a bit with her work and from time to time I go with. Plattsburg, Potsdam, fort Henry area. Any good LFS to check out?

Unfortunatley, no great stores in PLattsburgh. We have a store that is selling coral that he hand pics from a wholesaler down outside of NYC (Reef Splendor), so he gets some really nice pieces about twice a month, but it's often hit or miss. Gary Greguire Lives between Plattsburgh and Potsdam, and he's got some great tanks and always has frags.

If you're ever in Plattsburgh overnight, take the 45 min. trip to Milton, VT and check out Milton Mini Reef. Fantastic store. Comperable to Rochester stores (IMO)in a much more rural setting.
