New Wet Side - Pump falls off

OK. I've had my Vortechs for a long time now, I think I have a clue how they work. I ordered new complete wetsides to swap out, and one of the new wet sides doesn't want to stay attached. It keeps separating.

I changed the pin spacer to the next smaller size, thinking that the magnet might not sit as close, but that didn't help. The pump is running full out in Lagoon mode.

I've cleaned the glass, cleaned and checked the wetside and repositioned the unit several times. I've put my old wetside back in place and we'll see what happens.

Any other suggestions on what to try?

Hmmm... 24 hours on the 'old' wet side and all is well. Do you think that the motor was having separation anxiety? Ohhhh... sorry.....

Does the new wetside rotate freely? Does the wet frame cover sit securely? Does the wet side eject immediately or very soon after installation?

Hey Tim,

Yes, it rotates freely. I didn't need to tighten the nut on the wet side, but did check then freedom of movement and it appears to spin easily without grabbing.

The wet frame is secure. The guard is seated correctly and the base is snapped on firmly. Rotating the impeller (propeller?) by hand is easy and smooth.

It does eject very soon after installation, usually within 5-10 minutes. Though I did get it to stay for a few hours the first day.

Actuall it is time zone change as Tim has been in Germany the past week.

Oh... been there, done that.

I compared the two wet sides with each other and discovered that the new one had the nut very (VERY) tight. I loosened it a bit and it appeared to spin easier. I'll put the new wet side back on and see if that helps.

Hey Rob, Did that solve your problem? I seem to be having the same problem with one of my vortechs. Took the wetside apart and cleaned and reassembled. Spins smoothly. No obstructions, everything looks perfectly fine. Still having a problem with it separating though. Next time it falls off I can try loosening the nut. Was wondering if that solved your problem.
