new Zero Waste RO/DI?

The new technology called "ZeroWaste" eliminates this problem by returning the concentrate water from the reverse osmosis system back to the home's plumbing, resulting in 100 percent efficiency.

nothing new, just a different way of disposing of the waste. In their manual they specifically state it may take 4 gallons to make 1 RO gallon... no new tech, just advertising hype.

Its been out for years. The biggest problems associated with it are limited production, usually about 25 GPD maximum and it defeats the purpose of having a water softener since it recycles the concentrated waste or brine back into your hot water heater shortening its life.
The GPD limitation is due to pumping back into a closed system namely your hot water plumbing. If you tried to pump more it could force hot water back into your cold water plumbing since you have little room for expansion. The 125% or so concentrated waste may not be a huge problem if your TDS is very low to begin with but for lots of us in the western states with a TDS over 800 its a huge deal. I paid good money for a water softener so don't want to dump the crud back into my plumbing that I worked so hard to get rid of.

thanks for clearing it up,,,, I was confused thinking "where in the world is the crap going?"

Id had this image of an RO membrane with mud around it after a short time...
