New Zooanthid Dip.. check it out

if you all are interested about the active ingredient in that...the chemical name just sounded like some chemical that you would use to treat parasites/fungus.

go to www.chemfinder.com and then type in the chemical name in the search box.

for instance, i typed in Nitrofurazone....its IUPAC name is 5-Nitro-2-furaldehyde Semicarbazone along with a bunch of synonyms.

down the page there are a bunch of links that show what the compound is normally used for...interesting information.

does the stuff say its specifically safe for corals? interesting info though... .

since lugols is such a highly concentrated iodine...i've always wondered about using bedadine...basically same stuff they use for medical sterilizing purposes. it would alot cheaper than lugols thats for sure. :lol: maybe one day i'll have the guts to test it :lol:

I found it on ebay during a google search under the section of "Horses". Interesting.

Packaging states it's for fresh or saltwater fish, for the treatment of baterial infections, or parasites. Interestingly enough, where I had no polyps open before, I have 3 open now. Fairly colorless so far, being closed for nearly a week in the tank.

In other words, so far, so good.

If you're getting new zoos with no signs of fungus, would you recommend doing a plain freshwater dip (plain meaning no meds)?

I read in a different thread that recommend doing dips to all new zoos, but wasn't sure if meds were necessary?

If you are getting "new" zoas in the sense that you just purchased/traded for them and just going to add them to your tank, then yes by all means dip. But freshwater alone isn't going to have much effect on lots of the nasties.

If your getting "new" zoas in the sense that they are already in the system and your just growing more "new" polyps, then there is not reason to dip unless you do see a problem.

I used the freshwater dip (Mucho's) when they arrived.

I tried this do to a brownish fungus on only one frag. I wouldn't recommend it for new arrivals either.

I'm getting "new" zoos from a purchase. I guess I when I read "freshwater" dip, I thought it was ONLY freshwater. MUCHOS freshwater dip calls for some meds.

Guess I need to try to find a local place that sells Lugols cause my zoos should be coming next week.
