Have a mixed reef 150 72" x 18w x 29 deep with dual overflow's & running a Mag 18 return

currently running chinese 3200 pumps on each end and high up and pointing at each other in the center of the tank

they also point up to agitate the surface of the tank along with the returns

well I now have 2 used mp40's and wondering where to mount them?

How deep to go? do they need to agitate the surface?

Point at each other?

have limited rock work for the most part...

I see some mounting half way down the sides others mounting on top?

some up from each other --- some pointing at each other

what is a general rule of thumb here?

as always thanx in advance

I have 2 in my 210 mounted as low as I could put them without churning up the sand. I have them just slightly off-centered from one another so I get a bit of collision as well as a bit of circular flow...

I have nozzles on my returns about an inch below the surface so I get good surface agitation from that...

With that said, I am considering getting a couple of directional pumps (probably Tunze's) so that I can direct flow to lower areas in the tank that the linear MP's miss...

Fred,

With VorTechs there is no exact rule of thumb on pump positioning. That said, I have always found it best to have one mounted closer to the surface while the other is closer to the sand bed.
