Newbe for horses

I am in the process of setting up a 44g hex, and I am really considering getting some Sea Horses. I am very new to sea horses and I only know stuff from being at pet stores and listening to people talk about them, and reading stuff on here. What would be the best way to set the tank up, and what species of corals fishes sponges and inverts are safe with them. Any info would be helpfull, and if any one has a 44g hex set-up for sea horses, please post pics so i can get ideas. Thanks in advance, Jeremy

You can look at the tankmates article in the library on seahorse.org for ideas of what fish, coral, and inverts are safe with seahorses. As for how to set up the tank, there are zillions of different ways. Do you want a sump? What kind of filtration do you plan to use? Searching around forums for other people's seahorse setups should help give you an idea. A few things to keep in mind: seahorses can handle moderate, well-distributed flow, but they cannot handle strong, direct flow. Also, you will want to keep the water temperature between 70-74 degrees for tropical seahorses, cooler for subtropical or temperate species.

Im going to do a canister filter, but put the return line as low of pressure as it will go and have the flow hitting a rock so that it will be distributed and weakened.

The only problem with that, is sometimes the seahorses like to swim into a flow, its a game with them. So you don't want the flow hitting a rock because you'll be blowing them right into it. Why not use a spraybar a lot of cannisters come with them, if not make one out of 1/2 inch pvc. A spraybar will distribute the flow equally rather than one point.

yes, spray bar is definatley a possibility, could i put it vertically so that the whole tank gets some flow, i know that itcan be hard to get flow in the bottm of tall tanks
