Newbie. Check out my tank...

Hello guys, I just got into the hobby and I've been lurking around the forum and asking questions here and there.

The LR is on its 5th day of curing. Hopefully in a few weeks i'll be ready for some livestock.

So far my setup is:
75 Gallon Proclear wet/dry w/built in skimmer
rio 2100 pushing water back into hte tank
200 watt stealth heater
65 gallon tank (used to be FW tank)
aquaclear powerhead 70
40lbs live sand
88lbs walt smith kaileni live rock (ordered from seatrademarine.com-great guy to deal with)
digital thermoter
odyssea 260watt PC (sold it yesterday to opt with a hamilton reefstar MH setup or the like-if you have something similar for sale let me know)

Hey pat,

As I get a better grasp on this I would like to get some corals and possible some anenomes down the road....

Some of this information can get rather overwhelming for me.

Also, I plan to add at least another powerhead.

Right now I'm trying to figure out if ONE 400watt HQI double ended pendant will work for my setup. I really want to avoid a duall ballast/dual pendant setup (the setup has already cost me an arm and a leg and its just the beginning!!)

now for this tank do you guys think one 250watt HQI MH pendant would work for me?

Perhaps a 400 watt HQI MH?

I really want to avoid getting a daul setup. What do you guys think?

looks like a great start however with mh lighting 1 light is good for 2 feet of tank and if this is a standard 75 gal it is 4 foot long which means you will want to have a dual mh setup. by only having one and you put it in the middle you will have a shadow from the brace or if you put it only on one side then it will be bright on one side and dark on the other. but it all depends on how much that will bother you

you will need more flow I would get a couple of seios and mount them tunze style. check out t5 ho lighting, you will need at least 2 mh pendants to light your tank.

Hey guys thanks for the comments and advice.

Yes it is a 65 gallon tank. It is 48" long and 16" deep.

I have a few questions. Is there a reason why no one goes with Aquaclear powerheads? They are readily available at my LFS and thats why i bought it. They are also pretty inexpensive. About $40 bucks for the aquaclear 70.

Also can someone explain to me what TUNZE style means and what its advantages are? And how come some pumps are recommend not to be used with a wavemaker? Which ones ARE compatible with a wavemaker?


As for the skimmer, a CRAP LOAD of brown gunk has come from it. I guess thats letting me know its doing its job

The Seios can be mounted like a tunze powerhead they draw less watts then a maxijet but are not supossed to be run on a controller that shuts them on & off. they do offer a wider flow prattern then maxijets. i have one seio and 4 maxijets in my 55 tank. the maxijets will work with a wavemaker.

Very nice. One thing to think about, For ease of cleaning the glass, you will want a few inches between the rock and the glass so you can get a magnet or scraper down there.

If you are still in the market for lighting, the coralife aqualight pro is working great for me, comes in either two 150w or two 250w MHs with pcs, and moons. simmilar to what you have pictured.

I like the overhanging horn on the top of your rockwork!!! Looks like you have plenty of realestate to build on now. Have fun!!
