Newbie here looking for donations!!

Hello everyone,

Currently I have a 75g FOWLR. I am new to the hobby and need some help with my setup.

I have recently upgraded to 4x65 watt PC lighting and added a Aqua C Remora skimmer. And added 50lbs of various types of live rock. 40lbs of lace rock. I have a Fuval 304 hooked up, and have a few powerheads for flow.

I want to add a sump/fuge but now feel like i made a mistake getting the HOB skimmer. Can I integrate this into the sump and will it provide sufficient skimming? (rated up to 75g) What size sump/fuge should be used for a 75g tank?

Help with my return, I want to get rid of the powerheads/fluval and have the return provide my circulation to keep equipment out of my tank.

I am willing to pay for a sump/fuge setup, and anything else I may need. I could use some help getting started if anyone wants to help by donating a few frags or advise!!!

I want to keep some coral, anemone, zoo's, and lots of fish/inverts.

This hobby has grown into an addiction for me, and I appreciate any feedback!!!!

Here are a few pics, with diy canopy, painted stand black, and back of tank navy blue.

Looks like a good start but lots of people will tell you lace rock is no bueno for a reef tank. They tell me it sometimes releases phosphates.

Woa, don't jump the gun on the rock. We've got some lace in our tank, 2 years so far, no problems...... knock on wood.

I would do more research before yanking it from the tank. JMO

You'll find several opinions on lace rock. Some will say since it is lifeless undesirable forms can take hold easier than with LR. Also it can never get as live as LR. Other will say after 2 years you can't tell the difference. I found my LR to leach tons of PO4 for the first 6 mos. or so. I decided the all LR approach mostly because I negotiated a great deal. I'm glad I did because we had great fun discovering hitchhikers.

Thanks for the feedback, Im just trying to do things the right way first. I will read up on this before I go and ditch the rock. Anyone have a sump/fuge they want to sell?

What are the interior dimesions of your stand ? Most people will agree that you want the biggest sump you can fit in to your stand and still maintain access to your equipment.

It would be possible to hang your skimmer on your sump. I dont have any experience with that skimmer so I can't comment on it's ability with regard to the size of your tank. I do think that as your tank starts filling up, you may want to consider getting a larger skimmer.

It is tough to get enough flow out of returns.

If you are hell-bent on hiding equipment, you could build a PVC manifold driven by a pump which is hidden by your hood and can create plenty of flow.

I can frag out a couple of things for you if you'll be at the prop meeting next weekend.

If you need some design help, let me know and I'll help any way I can. WHile I am new to this, I have a lot of scars from tank design and set up. I may be able to save you a few.

I always have lots of newbie starter corals on hand.
My experience with lace rock was not great. it always seemed to grow red algae on it when the pieces surrounding it were fine and forming corraline. I had this same experience in more than one tank.

I think it's a hit or miss with those Aqua C Remora skimmers. Some people love em and some people hate them. As for myself, I had one on my 26g and it worked ok. Maybe a half cup of green stuff every week, but when I put it on my 55g, it got like a teaspoon every week. :( Now it's just laying in my cabinet. I'm not saying you got a crappy skimmer because some people have posted great success stories with theirs. Hope that helps.

I would get a much bigger skimmer. They usually say to get a rating at double your tank or more. I love the ASMs myself and have a g2 on my 75. If you get a lot of fish, the tank will be especially messy! I'm fighting it constantly since my tank has a lot of fish in it.

I love the sign above the tank!

So I just picked up the sump/fuge/skimmer listed above. I have it under my tank ready for some livesand/micro algae/ and new saltwater. I am happy with it and with both skimmers I think I will be covered. I have been happy with the Remora as it normally pulls a full collection every day! Thanks for all the info, I will def take all of you up on the offers. I will post updated pics soon!

Well, if you're getting full collection cups with the lighter load you're carrying, then there's no need to change anything! Who cares what skimmer it is if it puts out the junk!
