newbie needs some advice

This is my first post..
I have a 10 gallon with a marineland 150 biowheel filter,a koralia 240 PH, approx 8lbs of LR and a deep sand bed, 1 tomato clown(1inch) and a few leather corals. The tank has been up and running for about 4 weeks. I was looking to get another smaller tomato clown and pair them up..however i was told that a 10 gallon is too small. Would it be too stressful on the fish to upgrade to a 20 gallon so soon? (the fish has only been in for about 2 weeks).

Probably. I wouldnt risk it. I would hold off on the second clown for a while.

Sounds like you didnt cycle your tank. If you did, my apologies. A 20g is pushing it but if they were in it by themselves id itd be ok.

Thanks for the feedback. Im going to hold off on the second clown for a while..would it be okay to still upgrade with just the one clown. and if so whats the best way to do so. and yes i cycled my tank..ive been going to the local saltwater store (Down Under) and they checked all of my parameters and such..everything is perfect

2 weeks is too quick to have properly cycled a tank...

and i would also agree that 20g is too small for a pair of tomato clowns.. as for transferring to a larger tank i would do it but go with a 40B at a minimum for a pair of tomatoes

a month and already looking to upgrade! jeez

but a single clown can do with a pretty small tank, if you have two and they're mated the whole tank becomes their whole territory.

Thanks guys! As i said I am a compete newbie and im basically just doing whatever my LFS suggests to me. And like I said, the only reason I am looking to upgrade is so I can get another tomato to pair up with mine. So even a 30 gallon wouldnt work? I'm not looking to have any other fish, just the clowns and maybe a few emerald crabs and snails. Also, I'm not planning on upgrading for another few months, just want to plan out what i'm going to do before i get in over my head.

30g i think would be a little tight but doable for a pair of fish that can reach up to 4" each, i think a 40 would be better for them.

Hello! I'm in NC too just picked up a 40 breeder at Petco for $40. It's a nice size if you have room. Jealous you can upgrade so soon...my fiancé is putting his foot down when I ask to upgrade my 12 long to the 40 breeder (it'll sit empty until I can convince him .

You have to check out the Reef Farm in Raleigh...best prices around on corals and I learn so much every time I go.
