I have a 29gal SW tank with LR and sand, it is established and i am wanting to start having clams,,, question- what kind of lighting can i have if i do not want to use MH due to location of tank and the heat factor with kids. is there an alternative?

T. Maxima and T. Crocea will need metal halide lighting for them to thrive. For Squamosa and Derasa, PC, T5 or VHO lighting will work fine. How long has your tank been going? What are your parameters?

all water params are good , except for nitrate but that is due to an extra damsel i added a few days ago. Not planning on anything until i can get the right lighting and food for proper care

Please, wait a good 6 months before adding clams. At the 6 month mark as long as your parameters are fine, then it is safe to add clams.
