I am just in the beginning stage of my first tank (55gal, 20gal sump, EuroReef RS80 skimmer, Koralia 3, Mag 5, No lights yet, just finished cycle) and one of the main things I want in my tank is clams (along with anemones) what are some of the basics that I should or should not do along the way to eventually get to the point where I can have clams??

p.s. I was planning on T5's

ugh you sure that T5's gonna be enough light in a deep tank like a 55gallon? i know its a wise tale, but MH might be the best way to go for clams...

i just got a 55gallon tank few weeks ago....and i ended up gettin 2x 250w MH lights

its a wise tale......there alot more variables to lighting than just the letters/numbers thrown around known as "MH" and "T5"

that would be a "wives' tale" and i have seen plenty of SPS and Clam dominated reefs lit "merely" with T5's...

how long is a 55? and how many lights you lookin at getting in the setup? i know that some of the 36 and 48" T5 setups come with 8 bulbs and most are overdriven...which in turn puts out far more light then a MH, just because MH is a point source doesnt necessarily mean it is a better choice...i think my next tank will definitely have a T5 setup rather then my current MH...T5 offers much more coverage then MH..
