Hello everyone,
after doing much online research and signing up in the forums I stumbled across you merry bunch of fellows and fellowettes, and decided to see whats going on locally. I have had freshwater tanks and a couple of smaller saltwater tanks when I was a student going to school in California and decided I would like to get back into the hobby. Wow things have changed! So many choices!
I am thinking of purchasing this aquarium from an individual used, do you think this is a good deal for $675? Iw ould like to also come to one of your meetings and check out what you have going on and mingle...

" I am selling this 125 gallon reef ready aquarium with built in overflows and skimmers. Stand contains sump tank and all connections. All you need is a new pump which I will include for an extra charge and possibly replace some lighting. The current lighting is VHO and setup for a reef tank. Paid over $3000 new just for tank. "

The pics of this are in My Gallery. Thank you for your comments and advice.

Seems like an ok price but I personally would not want a tank with those dimensions or configuration. Too tall and I prefer a rectangular or cube tank which would be easier to aquascape and light IMO.

[welcome]

Chris:)

Welcome, tiberius. Come check out a club meeting sometime! We're all a friendly bunch and can help you weed through all the misinformation out there (RC is a good resource too). I see you're no newbie, but you're right, much has changed!

I think if you look around you can do better. As an example, when I set up my tank in the Knoxville area, I got a 65 gallon complete, 2 skimmers, SpectraPure RO/DI, MH/VHO, 75 lbs. LR, a bunch of fish and corals, couple of buckets of salt, baskets of additives, pumps, heaters, etc. for $600. Found it all in the American Classifieds or whatever that freebie rag is called. Granted, it was an outstanding deal, but they're out there.

Yeah there are many deals to be had out there... There are a few setups for sale out in Nashville... You might want to check out the MTRC forum... They have a frag swap coming up this weekend, and you could meet some of us ETRCers and pick up a tank... lol :D That one you were looking at isn't a bad deal though... Really it depends on how patient, or impatient you are... I spent a lot more on mine... Course that was before I found RC... :)

Hey thanks for the warm welcome folks, when and where is your next meeting, would love to come out and meet you all and see what the latest and greatest is...

I think they are usually the third Saturday of the month, but for some reason I am having a brain fart right now on that.

There was some discussion of Feb mtg being at my house but I don't know if that has been firmly decided upon yet or not.

I guess that would make it Feb 17th. It's kinda far off I guess!

But if you want to go and see people's tanks...just totally ask them. Pretty much any of us will let you come by and see our systems.

Thank you. I might ask you later for directions when you get the location and time finalized for the next meeting. Ya'll sound like a friendly bunch!

Yup... I finallized it... The Feb Meeting is at Mel's... Now lets start talking food!!! ;) Oh, and yeah, its supposed to be the third Sat. of every month... This month it coincided with the MTRC swap, so Chris was gracious enough to host early...

Tiberius~ You'll find thats the main reason we get together... We all like to stare at tanks while we eat... :D Hmmm, are you over 21???

I am a ripe 36! How do I get to aforesaid house of Mel? I can make pigs in a blanket, unless someone has Kosher food requirements..... or Vegans then I can make a spinach dip...

If I am not mistaken, the tank you are looking to buy is a Tenacor...am I correct. It has a sump, built into the back of the tank along with a couple of skimmers as well. At one time I was looking at this tank as well, and my problem with it that I came up with was that you lose too much surface area to have the sump built in. Also, if you want to do a fuge, you are not able to do so either.

Definitely if you look around you will be able to find something you are totally happy with. If you feel like this is the tank for you than definitely get it. If you are iffy, continue looking and you will find a good deal.

Speaking of people who need to get their as* to a meeting! hah hah.

Mel's house is in West Knoxville...near where Gallaher View and Westland meet. Directions will be forthcoming...but as Randy said...yes...talk about food please!

Hey VIP thanks for the advice I am going to emial the seller and verify if this is a Tenecor, I looked at the website and sure enough it looks like a tenecor... smells like a tenecor walks like a tenecor... lol. So what league do you do MMA with? Oh and forgive my newbieness but what is a fuge? Are you referring to a calcium reactor?

You know we're all about the hijacking... :uzi: And besides... He's fitting right in with the obsessive talking about food... lol :D

Tiberius~ Just bring a vat of cheese in a crockpot, pour it on everything you eat, and you'll be fine... lol ;) @ Mel Nah, seriously though, anything is great... We usually start some type of theme and everyone brings something to go along with... Being the excellent cook I am... I usually bring beer or soda...
