Is there a checklist of items needed to start a tank? I'm about ready to cycle my tank and I want to make sure I'm not missing something.

Thanks,

Pete

Here is the list so far:

28g jbj nano intermediate led
Hydor heater
Thermometer
Protein skimmer
Chiller , no tubing for that yet
Calcium blocks for coral
20 gal trash can for mixing salt water
Rio power head and tubing to mix salt water
Glass cleaner magnet thing

Needed:

Salt
Rodi water
Live rock
Sand
Hydromoeter
Test kit
Food

Not sure what else. Maybe chemicals for controlling ammonia levels.

Have you taken a look at the setting up sticky at the top of the forum page. Look for the big red arrow.

If your cycling why would you want chemicals to control the ammonia??

Are you referring to the extra little container and drop l I need to acclimate fish/coral?

Well, it's more than just acclimation. It's a good idea to decide on an effective quarantine protocol so you can prevent disease from entering your tank and give your animals the best chance for a happy life.

In the long run, you will save yourself a lot of aggrivation and time and money if you follow through with a good quarantine process.

For instance, all my fish go through Tank Transfer Method and 2 rounds of PraziPro and then at least 6 weeks of observation before they enter the main tank. Everything excluding fish, stays in a fishless reef for 11 weeks before it goes in the main tank.

So, it's a good idea to learn about the different quarantine methods out there and stick to something that works for you.

I agree with a Quarantine setup, it's like another tank but smaller and less "elaborate" (nothing inside except the thing you want to quarantine and maybe a Clean Up Crew)
You might also want to learn some of the terms we use such as GHA, pest, GSP, nitrates, etc.

Oh dang. I saw the word sticky and the arrow and looked up. Didnt even notice it was a post itself. Thank you

One of the biggest things I overlooked when setting up. I now have time as I am just bringing my nitrates down after cycling, but had I figured this out earlier I could qt fish and reduce nitrates simultaneously

What about fresh water dipping with medicine. Does that not work well? I can't afford a quarantine at this point

If you can't afford the qt now better to wait before starting, I was planning on a cheap setup and it quickly grew even buying used. You should be able to pick up everything you need for a qt for under 50$, look up Craigslist or other use posts.
