Just got Corals of the World by J.E.N. Veron (as a birthday present-birthday was the week before this years swap...). Awesome set of books that I'd recommend for everyone. I've been wanting the three volumes for a few years now:). These will now be known as one of the best purchases I've made;).

He documents nearly every stony coral that has been classified with a number of pictures showing how corals can look different in different areas of the reef (shelf, flats, etc.). He classified a good many of them himself. He's been instrumental in the whelks.aim page, so if you've ever gone there to check out coral ID's, this has them all. PLus he gives definitions of the terms that describe the types of strure within the corals to make grouping and lumping things for ID purposes. Every page has at least 2 pictures and we're talking three volumes of several hundred pages. Vol 1 is Family Acroporidea and the following volumes catalog the other stony Genus'. Incredible series...

Wow. Sounds like they are great books. I especially like that it shows how corals can look in different areas of the reef.

It also shows cross sections of the skeletons to understand the growth forms, as well as skeleton shots for comparsions under a microscope. Not necessarily for your just every day reefer, but great for those who want to know more.

Congrats Gary! I know you have been wanting those for a while...wish I had time to read mine:rolleyes:

Someday:D
