I want to goto one of these this weekend from ohio. One is a 4 hour drive and one is a 3 hour drive. Which one is better? Or is there a better on closer to cleveland? Let me know what you think. Thanks

I have heard alot of good things about shedd (its a much see) not much about newport. I would like to know how your experience was which ever one you choose, cause I will be going next month.

I was at Newport a year ago (almost to the day). It is very cool. However, it has 10X more fresh than salt. That being said, I am glad that I went. As for the Shedd, you cannot go wrong. It is one of the oldest (if not the) in the country. Tons of exibits, a full day plus. BTW how are your going to get to CHI-town in 4 hours???

LOL

If you are spending thenite check out Millers Pub. it is at Wabash and Adams. Under the L. Great ribs, just a fun place to be.

Seriously i go down to cincy to visit the future inlaws every month and have gone to the newport aquarium. i wouldnt go down there for just that. It is a nice aquarium & really interesting, but if your going to look at amazing reef displays or specalized marine displays its not that impressive. What is really cool though is the entire place mostly under water. You notice that once you come out the exit. i have pictures from there if anyone is interested.

I ended up going to newport. Pretty nice area and went to the zoo too with the family. Newport only had 3-5 live soft coral in the whole thing. No hard corals at all. Mostly sharks was the main theme. All the fish ect looked really healthy. Liked the one in the smokies in TN better than the newport one. Next will try the Shedd one in a month or so. Whats the best public one in the whole united states?

The Georgia Aquarium is the biggest - I went to the one in Chattanooga, TN last year and it was great. Went back to Nashville and went to The Aquarium restaraunt which was amazing as well.

I would say just by what I have seen on tv and on the web for me it would be a toss up between Georgia and Monteray bay. Georgia being the largest and newest.

Go to the Shed Aquarium!!! The Wild Reef section is very impressive with over 5,000 gallons of reef exhibits, mangrove habitats, and a huge shark tank. It is in a lower level and can be easily missed if you are not looking for the elevator to take you down there.

We also enjoyed the huge Amazon Rising section. It is obviously focused on fresh water, but it does a great job of demonstrating the ways the animals adapt to their changing environment.
