Next nano tank...

Hey guys I'm a little torn right now, I want to setup another nano going really cheap (10 or 20 gallons) but not sure if I want to do an angler tank or a goniopora only tank... Thoughts? Ideas? Opinions?

That's what I was thinking Robert, but do you think I'd get bored with it? Just sounds like a waste to have a tank for 1 fish... I'm really wanting to take a stab at gonis but not sure I'm ready to take that step...

An angler fish is about as much fun as watching someone else fish. Cool when they are feeding but just sit there most of the time. IMO you would get bored with it.

dwarf seahorses in a 10 or 20g would be pretty cool, along with some hard to find macro algae's like shaving brush and turtle weed.

Eric, I don't think I'm ready for seahorses expecially dwarfs... Just too many feedings for me to keep up with and life span doesn't help either...

I'm planning on raiding my Dad's left overs since it will just go into storage for now and see if I can setup something new. I'll either be using a 250W HQI or a 96W PC quad for lighting, I think the MH will be too much for anything other than Clams or SPS and I'm already covered with my 40. I'm really leaning towards the goni's but anyone know a good local sources? I think Mr Aqua has them but not too crazy about his pricing... Always seems like he's making it up.

Mr Aqua does have some nice properly collected gonipora. The key to getting a good deal there is to deal with John...he is willing to haggle and in the end you should get a relatively good deal on some quality specimens.

Not interested in a mantis, no different than an angler tank... too aggressive to put anything in with it.

I think a gonipora tank would be neat. Especially if you could get some babies to bud off.

That's what I was hoping for Haj! Really I'd like to get a few different colors all realatively small colonies... 1 Yellow/Green 1 Pink/Red and 1 Purple/Blue.

you could make it a shroom tank with ricordia and such

you could put in like 3-5 leaf fish, you could watch them all sway in the water to fool prey... that would be neat, plus then you can build a colorful reef setting around thier colorations. they are cheaper than anglers and they won't eat each other when they are comparably sized.

Why goniopora? Don't they just sit there too? Why not exotic zoos, a small, colorful fairy wrasse or dwarf angelfish, and shrimp under actinics? Lots of color.

Not a bad idea, but it's still a fish that sits when it's not eating...

Because they are supposed to be a challenge to keep and would like to try... Of course they just sit there they are corals but I could still add some nano fish if I get bored, they would get chomped if I did that with an angler... I've done zoo's before and man can they get out of control, plus not really the challenge I'm looking for. I've already got my SPS/Clam reef for color, I'm just wanting to learn something new and ready for the next challenge.
