Niger Trigger and Nassu Tang

I had the Nassu for a couple months and got a Niger Trigger and everything was fine for awhile. Now the Nassu harrasses the trigger all the time. Will the Niger get bigger and take up for himself or do I need to pull one out? He dont really hurt him just chases him to one spot in the tank all the time. They both eat like pigs and are healthy. Both are about 3". What u think?

Do you mean naso tang?What size tank do you have them in?If its the 40 or the 90 gallon then your tank is to small for both fish and you are always going to have problems.

Yea but they are both small. In the next few months they will have a 180 to play in. They are fine in this size tank when they are small. I had another set up for 6 years and had both of these same kind of fish in that 90 and didnt have a problem what-so-ever. So sometimes thats not true. I did it for 6 plus years. So any real answer to my question? Should I pull one till I get the 180 set up and then put it in. Since they dont like each other now will they fight then also?

Actually, it is a Naso elegans, and regardless it (( along with the trigger )) will not work in a 90 gallon tank.

To the OP, I don't usually take this approach but I think that you may not be intellectually fit for the task at hand. Your terse, defensive little answers reveal your large and fragile ego. And your insistence on using the wrong name even when corrected and the wrong tank size when you should know better shows your willful ignorance. There are some very experienced and knowledgable people on this forum (not me) and you should learn to show some respect or go elsewhere.

i sold the whole setup when i moved from nj. I know i dont want to keep them in the 90 gal but i have a 180 but i cant set it up for 2 months, end of june. i dont mean to offend anyone but i had them in a 90 for 6 years and believe what u want im sorry they got along fine. these two of are different and dont. And small Alien Im not Ignorant nor do I have disrespect for anyone I dont know so just keep your comments to yourself!

Just curious whats the dimensions of this tank?

90 Gal - 48X18X25 w 20gal long sump. The 180 is 72X24X25. Just cant swing setting it up yet.

How big did the fish end up getting?I'm guess your naso was almost a foot in six years

No accually he was only about 7-8" when I sold everything. The Niger was ony about 6" but fat and thick. The fish were given to me and really had been in my tank since they were about an inch long. Also had a yellow tang and a hippo tang in there. I know way over crowded but they were ok. I keep my tanks really clean and maintained. Ill post some pics later. Thanks for all your help.

If the Naso elegans was only 7-8 inches after 6 years there was something seriously wrong. They were not ok.

Well, as others have written there is no such animal as a Nassu Tang. Even Naso lituratus, the correct name of the fish, does not come from Nassau so I am not quite sure where the fractured common name came from. Reef Central recommends a ten foot tank for this fish because: 1) it gets to be 1 foot in captivity (18 inches in the ocean) and 2) it is naturally a "swimmer". Putting this fish along with a trigger in a smallish tank is sort of like raising your kids in a closet. They may seem happy, but they are really not.

Yea I know this thats whay Hes coming out. He got a new home in a 220 this weekend. Thanks for all your help. I like the kids in a closet ! So true. Thanks for all your help. I cant stand them picking on one another either. Will the Trigger be ok in the 90 for now after I remove the Tang?

For a while. Remember this fish gets largish (about one foot). However, triggers are not by nature "swimmers". As such, you will be fine in that tank until it grows; then it will be very aggressive towards tankmates.
