Niger Trigger Eyes

On Friday I received a 3"-4" Niger Trigger from Liveaquaria.

i have a question about the eyes. The eyes are not crisp clear. there is a slight haze. Both eyes look the same. Looking at some Nigers at the LFS this looks normal.

he has been eating fine and already active.

i just want to check if the eyes are normal.

thanks,

mike

Im not sure if it is normal but when i had my niger his eyes were like that. Never had any issues health-wise with him.

It's normal. Quite a few of the triggers have that blue/green haze to their eyes.

My queen and goldheart is what it was most pronounced in.

thanks guys. The haze is more clear (or cloudy) than blue/green. I have a porc puffer and red breasted wrasse that has a haze kind of like that.

Along with the Niger, I received a Banana Wrasse from Liveaquaria those eyes are nice crisp and black. I know different fish have different colors, but was not sure about the niger.

I will try and get a picture.

If it's just milky white and cloudy, I would say that is abnormal.

If it's green/blue tinted, I'd say it's pretty normal. Here's a picture of one of my triggers eyes, showing what I mean...

Well I spent more time looking at the fish after taking pictures. I did not take pictures when I first received the fish or over the weekend; however, I thought the eyes had more of a cloudy haze than today as seen in the picts. Maybe it is my eyes and not the fish .

I have been adding selcon to the food, but assume after only a few days that did not change anything. Or could there have been something that is getting better after a few days or could there be no change and I just need to get my eyes checked :hmm3:!

thanks,

Mike

I've had quite a few fish come in from LA and other sources with slightly cloudy eyes like are shown in your pictures.

I suspect it has something to do with not having an eyelid they can blink with when they bump into the bag. Sure, it's just a plastic bag but their eyes arent used to bumping into something nonstop for 24 hours of shipping. Anyway, if it clears up over a couple days, it's most likely nothing to be concerned about at all.

I've always just let them be, if they appear to be getting better within a day or two like you seem to think yours is, I dont treat until they are eating well and doing good in QT. Then I'll treat with Prazipro and hypo.

well the eyes def. were cloudy and are much better now. They were getting better on their own but I went ahead and treated with maracyn plus (Liveaquaris said go ahead and there is no downside).

Now they are crisp and clear with the typical blue/green over the eyes.

thanks,

Mike
