Niger Triggers & other "peacful" triggers

I have an auotomated feeder that drops flake in 3 times a day (which I know the triggers gorge on), and then in the evening I give them some meaty frozen (krill, prawn, mysis, squid, Formulas, etc.). Its a lot of food, but it keeps them fat and healthy, and I have a skimmer running in overdrive.

I used to have a niger trigger in my old 90 FOWLR. He ate every shrimp he could get ahold of. He was also aggressive. Now my 90 gallon is a reef. IMHO I would only get a trigger in a fish only tank.

I have had my Pinktail about 2 1/2 years now, in the past it has been with chromis, clowns & corals, This fish has been great with everything.

Just recently, I have started noticing territorial issues at night, just before bedtime for this fish. He wants nothing to pass around the area where he sleeps. He darts out at other fish, like he is going to do something but never touches any of the other fish.

This is another trigger I have read some pretty bad stories about, but for me so far so good.

Tankfabricator,

Do you have an appropriate sized tank to house a Trigger? Looks as if you have a Nano:confused: That would not be big enough

I just bought a niger trigger a week ago for my 92 reef. I was a little hesatent at first on getting him, but so far its been fine. I guessits just a waiting game now

I have had good luck with crosshatch, pinktail, blue throat and hawaiian black (durgeon).

Wow, so far my trigger is only eating frozen krill. Need to pick up some mysis.

So feeding frozen twice a day is a good idea eh? I dont want him getting starving and picking at my corals.

I just got a sargassum trigger 4 days ago and he's still wedged between 2 rocks. Should I try to pry him away from the rock or will he start coming out when he settles in a bit?

Let him be, wedging themselves between rocks is their natural defence.

My very small Niger (see avatar) was doing fine and not bothering anyone, but something speared him. No idea what, but one day he had a wound in his side, and a few days later was stuck to a power head, dead.

i would choose the sargassum trigger, then crosshatch, then bluethroat for a reef. Sargassum's are the most passive IMO.

Haha... yeah.. no worries here, I have many tanks laying around. I prefer to have my whole systems (including inhabitants) planned out before I even fill with water. My nano was the product of boredom. And a successful one too;) . If I get a trigger, it's home will be a 10 foot tank I might buy from a friend.
