Thanks everyone!

Thanks everyone!

Sk8r: Thanks! I was really trying hard and got a couple that helped, and i thought just normal aquarium photography was hard lol wow.

akrimmel: Im 100% its not a peacock

LeslieH: Thanks so much for coming in here and giving us the expert opinion to close things up. I do have a few more questions though, can this thing bite me or anything? I would just like to be aware when/if i remove it. Also what do i do with it when i take it out? Is it possible to sell it or just give it to someone? I have to say it is a very interesting creature and i would definitely keep it in my tank if it was reef safe. But since the bigger they get the more likely they are to eat corals im leaning to getting rid of it. Not to mention it explains alot of missing frags :P

And thanks supernerd for helping me figure it all out last night. Man was i freaked when i first saw that.

Ok i used to have a rock that was covered in Anthelia, it has slowly been disappearing. Untill i saw this i thought it was because i just added a seio1100 and it was getting to much flow, so i fraged alot of it off the original rock and put it on a rock more out of the direct flow. The next morning the rock with all the frags on it was completely bare. I recently moved one of my mushrooms up a little higher to the lights and it started to shrink and looks like pieces are missing. I assumed it didnt like the lighting change and was melting away.
And the last, i fraged a single zoo polyp onto a rock so that it would start spreading on it. It was fine for several weeks. then one day i couldnt find the rock it was on and finally found it in the back of the tank and the zoo was gone. Now of course i dont know if it feel face first onto the sand and it killed it. How long can a zoo survive face first in sand?

Here's a tip for night time photography. Use red light to spot your guys. Most creatures of the deep can't see red light. There's no real reason to. In fact, the red fish we see are mostly black at depth... no red light reaches them. So spot your guy with red light on, then flash for your picture. It'll scare the hell out of it, but you should get a better shot.

no its not a mantis shrimp.
This is what it is

It's capable of biting you. I haven't heard of any one actually being bit but it could happen. It's always better to be careful & wear gloves as even a small bite or cut can lead to nasty infections.

Some eunicids will re-arrange surprisingly big rocks to better camouflage their burrows. Sounds like that might have happened to one of your frag rocks. Of course you might have other inverts helping things along -- scavengers can take care of a sick or dying coral pretty quickly.

Some people are very fond of worms. Why don't you offer it for adoption in the invert forum? Venwu & Kenk in particular like to get worms for their tanks or teaching and will pay for shipping.

Now that's some weird stuff!!
My bet was on Mantis after looking at pic2, but guess I was off.

I like worms and welcome all new signs of life in my reef. This is how i found this guy, i love looking at my tank at night. Im just not comfortable with this guy, knowing he could eat corals. Now that i have found him i think its just to many coincidences. Would it be more likely to go after soft corals before sps? or lps? I have noticed anthelia and zoos missing. My frogspawn is somewhat retracted but i did just move it so it could be that. I have a digitata and it is growing very well with nothing missing ;) I have a few other sps and they both look good too and are encrusting.

Kurt, that is a eunicid worm. You probably got it in the rock I sold you. When I tore my tank down last week I found one that was over 3 ft long. I never ever saw him in the tank before. If you can catch him (GOOD LUCK) get him out of the tank. I'm not sure if it will eat corals but they claim some do.

Im not really sure, havent taken the rock out yet. Hes prob a good 1/2-3/4in wide i think. Ive seen parts of his body all over but never both ends. Im guessing hes 6-12in but we will see once i get him out. would the best way to get him out be spray soda water in the hole hes in? Will he jump out of the hole and attack me? lol
How wide was the one you found?

I was the poor soul breaking down Lonnies tank when that evil worm attacked me....I amlost screamed like a little baby when I saw it, my hand was about 2 inches away from it when I pulled the rock off of its burrow.....That thing was evil looking. It was easily 3' long, and about 3/4-1" wide or so, I was able to scoop it up in a net eventually and Lonnie has it for safe keeping in his secret spot, next to his cookie jar

Not a fun find, but oddly I probably would keep it until it did noticible damage. It's just a worm... Not always bad, but still, its not fun finding one day the largest thing in your tank is some huge ugly worm that moves like a snake.

Nice pics man. The last few you could really see the segmentation, legs and antennae.

Have to admit it has a cool mettallic sheen to it.
