night flow? and a clown fish

Hey just had a quick question on how much flow during the night schedule? Do you guys completely turn of all powerheads? I have a RW8 on the lowest setting in my 10 gallon nano that houses a clown fish and it kinda blows him around lol so I was wondering how long should I keep it on?

I definately wouldn't turn off all flow my wp40s go to 40% at a constant flow for night rather than a variable wave

I use the night mode on my rw-15's but I have one other powerhead that outputs about 1400gph that stays on.

Night mode still creates flow, its just on the lowest setting and constant.

I should probably get an RW-4 then and use that instead of my RW-8 cuz it's way too much flow for a 10 gallon. My clown gets pushed around a lot by the flow when it's on the lowest setting during the day so and there's no way to make it slower so I can't imagine him trying to sleep like that lol I'll turn it off at night for now until I get an RW-4.
Thanks guys.

You should definitely maintain flow but it should be gentle ideally, I have my MP40s set to 15% at night.

I have a hob filter so it'll push around water for the night until I can get a slower powerhead.

Thanks this is really helpful. Kinda Gave me an idea of how night flow should be.

I appreciate it guys

Can some please explain to me why in an actual reef the ebb and flow of tides etc would diminish at night?

Because the ebb and flow of tidal changes in an open ocean reef is not as much as a lot of people think. Tidal flow if not confined to smaller spaces such as inlets or channels is greatly dispersed and actually pretty gentle.

I don't change the flow of my tank at night. There are places in my tank that have less flow than others and this is where the fish find they can sleep. My Hectors Goby and my Cherub Angel sleep in the rocks. I've just never been one to adjust the flow for the sleeping conditions of the fish. They figure it out ;)

A rw-8 is waaaay big for a 10 gallon ....lol

Haha I know I bought it for my 40 breeder that I'm setting up. It's the only powerhead I have so I put it there for now on the lowest setting which "according to the box is 180 gph". It's not that bad...I just can't change it to a lower setting for night flow then it already is...so that's why I'm getting a RW-4. Plus everything that is in this tank will eventually go into my 40 breeder when it's done, and this will be my hospital/QT tank. I won't be done with the tank for another 6 months probably. ..but that's another story lol

So is it almost the same as being close to shore? For example, the tidal waves that crash on a beach around a rocky cliff and such slows down at night, but has about the same current as an open ocean?

Fish need oxygen at night too. Don't turn off any pumps, not your skimmer, not your main or your powerheads.
